Golden Gate Audubon Society

Founded on January 15, 1917 and incorporated as a chapter of National Audubon in 1948, the Golden Gate Audubon Society is one of the oldest and most esteemed conservation organizations on the West Coast.

Conservation Achievements:

Preservation of the tidal marshes of the Emeryville Crescent, home to several endangered species
Restoration of 14 acres of wetlands at Pier 98 in San Francisco
Saving 480 acres of wetlands from destruction at the Oakland Airport
Preservation and restoration of 71 acres of wetlands at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline Park in San Leandro Bay
Preservation of public access along the shoreline of Harbor Bay Isle in Alameda
Creation of the Alameda National Wildlife Refuge
